Today was quite the day.
Back at the end of October I was fired from my job as a waitress at the Spearmint Rhino. I was told it was because my drink sales were not good enough. I questioned the manager who fired me because I was selling $500-$600 a night in diet cokes and red bulls. I assumed that was good enough. However once I questioned their reason I was told a was fired based on my two previous write ups. Which I disputed when those took place as well.
I knew the real reason why I got fired. I had an butthead of a general manager, Eric Platke. I had worked for him before and walked out because he called me a liar. However when he called me in March of 2008 and asked me to work at the Spearmint Rhino I needed the money. From the beginning there were nothing but problems between us, of course. I am a strong willed person and I do not take kindly to men who believe they can manipulate me because they are older. I believe respect is earned despite your age or your gender. I am an educated women who deserves to be spoken to as an adult not a child.
Long story short, I filed for unemployment since I qualified and it would pay my bills while I looked for work. I was denied and I appealed. I had a hearing today at the unemployment office and who shows up, Eric Platke.
Let me just start with the looks he was giving me the ENTIRE hour we were in the waiting room. If that was not bad enough he LIED during the entire hearing! I should not have been that surprised, since he lies everyday. He lies to co-workers about being and x-cop, lies to dancers to get bigger tip outs, the list goes on.
I could not believe he was sitting across from me accusing me of not doing my job and being careless. When he could not even tell the judge my last day worked or how long I was employed at there. In the mind of Eric Platke March-November is only four months. Eric continued to bring up the only two write ups I was given during my employment at the Spearmint Rhino. The first write up I received, in May, was from him. He told me clean a tray and when I did he wrote me up for not cleaning the the tongs. I wrote on my write that was unfair because he only instructed me to re-clean the tray. At any rate the second write up I received was in October. He tried to pull it off that I was the only one who received a write up, when the truth was all the girls working on October 4th were written up. Actually given the same write up, Eric just changed the names at the top of the paper. Needless to say he did not take kindly to me correcting him and filling in the judge that two other girls received the same write up as myself. The lies just continued through the whole hearing, even judge grew sick of his condescending manner. In the end Eric tried to put the Spearmint Rhino on a pedestal, when in reality its nothing more than an under ground brothel. Furthermore a million dollar company had to lie about which manager fired me and had to make notations in my work file after I was fired. That is pretty amazing admission of guilt if you ask me.
Weather I get the unemployment or not does not really matter to me at this point. I am just thankful to be out of such a negative environment. I did not realize how unhealthy that place was while I was working there, I think I was just focused on making money. However after seeing a grown man lie to cover up HIS mistakes rather than admitting to them was pitiful. It just showed me the the truth behind my termination, I know too much about Eric’s trashy ways and would not be intimidated to keep quiet. I am grateful to be out of such a horrible environment and reclaim some of my innocence. I have learned from working in such a degrading industry, but I walked away with my integrity in tact. I cannot say that for all who I have met along the way.
All I can say is anyone who encounters Eric Platke best record every conversation because you will need it one day. More importantly, good luck to the managers who have made working at a strip club a career.
