More than 2,100 registered North Carolina sex offenders were found on the social networking site MySpace, the state attorney general’s office said Tuesday.
MySpace turned over the names, IP and e-mail addresses of 2,116 convicted North Carolina sex offenders found on its social networking Web site.

Sex offenders on social networking sites is not a new issue. Last month, Newsweek magazine reported that Facebook said it had removed 5,585 convicted sex offenders from its site between May 2008 and January 2009. MySpace also announced it had removed 90,000 sex offenders in a two-year period, the magazine said.

After discussions with the group, MySpace became the first social networking site to develop technology aimed at finding and removing sex offenders, the North Carolina statement said. Cooper is pushing Facebook to take similar steps.

I guess my advice to my future daughter would be this: “If you love a man and want to have a long relationship with him, give him time to get there. But only say those words if you’re prepared to let him go.”

Richard Yanis gave the guns and ammunition to an unnamed friend from school and asked him to “hold onto it,” the statement said. The friend allegedly showed his stepmother the guns, and the two drove to a nearby creek where they tossed in the weapons.
“He was going to go into the school shooting, shoot everyone he did not like, and then himself.”

I cannot say I am shocked a fifteen year old boy stole his dads guns, what I am disgusted about is that a grown woman threw gun into a creek!
I mean seriously is she that stupid!?!
All police stations take guns without questions, maybe if she had done the right thing this would have been solved a little sooner.
We can all be thankful that none of the students were actually harmed.
However Richard Yanis will be tried as an adult for his crimes of attempted murder.

I was unaware that pirates still roamed the open sea.
I guess I just assumed by 2008 almost 2009 there would be some kind of law and law enforcement to prevent this historic act.

I do not necessarily believe that horrible MySpace messages drove a teenage girl to kill herself.
However the mom should, and the key word being SHOULD, be more mature than a teenager and let whatever happened between the two girls remain between the two girls. I do think any “mother” that would do this to an already sensitive child should be punished. It is simply unacceptable in my book.
