/> However two women decided to take their protest a little further. They are marching from West Hollywood to San Francisco.
Talk about inspiration and dedication!

Check out the full story on my friend’s blog site; OutGayLife

“Well we were a little devastated after the passage of proposition 8. The day after the election we started marching in the streets. We went to a rally in West Hollywood,” said Tracie Jones, Prop 8 opponent.
Tracie Jones and Valerie Paget have now taken their message to the streets.
The Southern California couple who has been together for more than a decade. The two said the passage of Prop 8 affects them personally.
“Just to kind of make a statement that we’re here. We’re your neighbors, we’re your sons and daughters, we’re your co-workers,” said Jones.
So to continue the fight, the two have decided to march about 450 miles starting from West Hollywood Park to the California Supreme Court in San Francisco.
Action News caught up with the two today near Santa Maria.
“Part of the purpose of our walk is to really represent that voice and keep it. Bring a certain sustenance to that voice and sustain it for a bit of time,” said Valerie Paget, Prop 8 opponent.
The couple started walking since November 18th and so far the journey has allowed them to collect hundreds of signatures for a “Revoke Prop 8″ petition.
Prop 8 supporters said the issue has already been decided.
“It’s crazy, they should just let it be. You know if they want to try and make it pass in a couple more years then try but right now it’s passed and that’s the way it should stay,” said Patrice Mongillo, Prop 8 supporter.
Despite the passing of Prop 8, Jones and Paget feel like other couples they too should have rights.
“We would just like that recognized and treated equally,” said Jones.

<img

However I get increasingly upset when people choose ignorance over progression and education.

This is an actual comment left on my post ::Prop 8 Video::

Michael(new comment) said:
I voted yes on 8. I agree with you that everyone deserves to be happy in their life. However, I don’t see marriage as a “civil right” like voting, free speech and other ‘rights’.

In California, gays can register under our existing “Domestic Partnership” laws. The Domestic Partnership laws encompass EVERYTHING that marriage legally includes PLUS it is easier and less expensive to register a domestic partnership than a marriage.

Marriage should be reserved for men and women as it has been for the past 2,500 years of human history.

Here is my response:

@Michael

I honestly do not see how gays getting married effects straight people in any way.
If it cost more to get married would that not stimulate the horrible Californian economy?

Furthermore your point about marriage remaining how it was 2,500 years ago is absurd. If we as a society never progressed we would still shot people instead of using lethal injections, the rich would still have slaves, blacks and women would be unable to vote, 14 year old girls would be married made mothers and never educated, and a black man would not be President of this country.
The foundation of the United States Of America is FREEDOM!

When does the controlling stop?!

Do we now begin to state that inter-racial couples cannot marry? That a Jew cannot marry a Catholic?

All reasons I have been told that gays should not marry are religious based. Which I find ironic that in a country where one can choose their religion, but not who to marry.

I believe instead of infringing on the rights of gay people maybe as a state we should start infringing upon the rights of ignorant, uneducated people.
Obama is our president in an amazing landslide.
Good job on the Californians.

However I am embarrassed to be a Californian today.
California voters approved Prop 8 52% to 48% according to the LA Times.
We as a state have just taken 15 steps backwards.
Banning gay marriage in California is a HUGE mistake.
How does a gay marriage effect anyone except those who are in it?
For those of you who voted yes on Prop 8, I hope I do not know any of you.
I cannot help but feel this Prop would not have passed if more people would have educated themselves before enter the polling place.
It has nothing to do with gay marriage being taught in schools. It was about weather California would recognize a marriage between gays.
Even if young kids learn about gays what is the harm.
If we as a state and a country do not talk about gays they will not disappear, they are here to stay.
It is their right to marry whom ever they love.

If we limit who can get married in California, perhaps we need to also regulate how long a couple has been together before they marry.
California has one of the highest divorce rates in the country.
What makes people believe that a man and a woman can be more successful at marriage than a man and a man or a woman and a woman?

I cannot grasp how we can elect Barak Obama as our President and pass Prop 8 at the same time.
<img
